What is Giving Tuesday?
Giving Tuesday is a global movement that unleashes the power of people and organizations to transform their communities and the world. It will take place on December 1, 2020 this year. This Giving Tuesday, GlobeMed at Columbia hopes to raise funds for our partner organization, GWED-G, to ensure that they can continue with their important work, serving women and other vulnerable communities in northern Uganda, throughout the pandemic.

Gulu Women's Economic Development and Globalization (GWED-G) provides essential health services, economic empowerment, psychosocial support, and human rights advocacy for vulnerable populations in surrounding communities. They have made important strides in the fight against HIV/AIDs and in empowering women, and need your support to continue their work throughout the pandemic. They have already distributed sanitizer to frontline workers, and food to those in danger of going hungry but need your help to provide more PPE and medical services. Due to COVID-19, Gulu, Uganda, has been under lockdown and Gulu Women’s Economic Development and Globalization (GWED-G) is tirelessly working to continue their project aims and assist with COVID-19-related support! They are a women-led grassroots NGO providing health services, economic empowerment, psychosocial support, and human rights advocacy for their communities. Due to the nation-wide travel lockdown in Uganda, there is limited access to hospitals and medical professionals. We are committed to supporting GWED-G's healthcare initiative which involves treating those with pre-existing medical conditions safely in their homes. Local health teams are currently traveling for miles by bike to visit patients' homes and they need your support to continue their efforts! A small contribution can go a long way: $2 will provide one face mask for a local community health worker, $10 will provide one medical home-visit for a bedridden patient, and $30 will provide a sterile medical kit for an at-home birth. All medical supplies will be purchased from local Gulu companies to stimulate the economy during pandemic conditions. Thank you so much for your time and consideration.
